Description

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

438 tools for a chief product officer in one course: 275 ready-to-use question lists, templates, checklists, procedures and scoring matrices, 140 models and methods, and 23 services and apps shown on screen.

Open a lecture, take the tool, use it with your product and your team.

Why strong product managers struggle as CPOs

A good product manager is promoted to lead product. Yesterday the job was one product and one backlog. Today it is a portfolio, a budget, five teams and a seat at the table with the CEO. The skills that brought the promotion are not the ones the new role asks for. A CPO does not build the product. A CPO builds the system and the people who build it.

What changes after this course

You have a strategy on one page that links customer value and business goals. You decide which products to grow, fix or close by a procedure. Each team knows its metric. There is one definition of each number in the company. You hire, grow and keep product people with a system and not by luck.

What is inside: 438 tools, counted lecture by lecture

You do not have to take this number on trust. Open any lecture and read its description: every tool inside is listed there by name.

  • 275 ready-to-use tools inside the presentations:
  • 66 question lists and scripts: customer interview script, product interview questions, cross-product review questions, one-on-one planning questions
  • 54 templates and sample documents: vision statement template, product strategy one-pager template, portfolio roadmap template, product dashboard template
  • 52 checklists: strategy stress-test, product sunset, MVP quality, Product Operating Model
  • 50 step-by-step procedures and workflows: product sunset procedure, CPO crisis response procedure, succession planning process, OKR review preparation process
  • 37 scorecards, rubrics and matrices: BCG matrix, GE-McKinsey matrix, technical debt decision matrix, product hiring scorecard
  • 8 formulas and metric sets: unit economics formula, LTV/CAC ratio, product portfolio metrics, engagement and retention metrics
  • 8 other working tools: PMF diagnostic sheet, team effectiveness feedback exercise, negotiation style self-assessment
  • 140 models and methods explained with examples: Jobs to Be Done, Double Diamond, product life cycle, growth loops, Spotify model, situational leadership model
  • 23 services and apps shown on screen, from a quick look to a detailed demo: Jira, Trello, Asana, Miro, Notion, Slack, Zapier and others
  • 57 downloadable resources: the lecture presentations

Where the tools are

  • The CPO role and product leadership (8 sections, 125 tools). Role, product strategy, portfolio, customers and markets, product teams and operating model, metrics and analytics, growth, scaling and risk.
  • People management skills for chief product officers (316 tools, 48 lectures). Most of the tools are here: hiring, onboarding, team development, leadership styles, pay and bonuses, motivation, retention, talent, goals, performance, one-on-one meetings, coaching, meetings, change, business models, conflict, negotiation and remote teams.
  • Future of the CPO role (2 tools).

The product part gives the frame for decisions at C-level. The larger part gives the management tools a product manager usually never received.

Who is teaching

I am Mike, the #1 HR instructor on Udemy, with 1,800,000+ course enrollments from 170,000 students, and the author of about 200 books on Amazon. I built the people system at Preply as it became a unicorn and worked at Wargaming, iDeals and Alfa-Bank across 20 years in HR. I hold PHRi, SHRM-CP and HCI sHRBP certifications and represent HRCI in Eastern Europe.

I am not a product manager. I looked for CPOs and strong product people at Preply and at Wargaming, so I know what companies expect from this role: the ability to gather teams around a mission, deep understanding of the customer, strong communication, an analytical base and the skill to prioritize and to say no. A CPO scales the product through people and grows them. I also saw why one definition of a metric matters. At Wargaming the data warehouse team, the monetization team and the product team each calculated LTV in their own way. It was a constant dispute, and the numbers were very different. In the end they met, voted and approved one approach.

How to use the course

Watch the first eight sections in order: they cover the product side of the role. Then use the people management section as a reference and open the lecture you need: hiring, pay, one-on-one meetings, OKR, conflict. Section and lecture titles show how many tools are inside, and each lecture description lists them by name.

  • A 10-question practice test, a quiz and a role play
