Description

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

First, what this is not. There is no nutrition advice here, no exercise programme and no medical content of any kind. This course is about the working conditions that make a job sustainable or exhausting, and how they are designed.

If you came looking for a fitness plan, this is the wrong course and I would rather you knew now.

Why individual effort does not fix this

Advice about work-life balance is almost always aimed at the individual: sleep better, take breaks, set boundaries. That advice is fine and it fails reliably, because the thing producing the exhaustion is usually structural.

A workload that assumes no interruptions. A culture where availability is how commitment is demonstrated. Remote work with no agreed boundary, so the day has no end. And a benefits package assembled from what competitors offer rather than from what anyone actually needs.

You cannot out-discipline a system. You can change one, and that requires understanding how it works.

Wellbeing and burnout as designed conditions

Thirty-four lessons. Six on wellbeing as a system rather than a perk: the classical model and why it stopped being enough, preparing the case, cultural audits that find the hidden factors, forming the team that owns it, behaviour change and nudges, and evaluating actual impact rather than participation rates.

Then six on how stress and burnout are produced at work: what the research shows, the difference between the two, the organisational factors driving each, the disproportionate influence of the line manager, training managers properly, and a pulse survey system that makes the problem visible before it is acute.

Time, remote work and what a company actually provides

Then six on the working week: SMART, the ABC method, the Eisenhower matrix, 4D, Pomodoro, Kanban lists, GTD, time audits, time-blocking, procrastination and its causes, recovery treated as scheduled rather than earned, and current tooling.

Then ten on remote and hybrid work, where the boundaries erode first: the move itself, working rules, the physical setup, supervision that does not depend on watching people, engagement without a shared room, health and safety at a distance, the skills remote work actually demands, hiring and onboarding, and culture that now has to be written down.

And six on benefits — the concrete thing an organisation provides rather than the thing it says: what people actually want according to the research, the types available, building a business case with a return figure, flexible and cafeteria-style schemes, budgeting from real need, and automation.

Who is teaching this

Mike, the number one HR instructor on Udemy. More than 1.6 million course enrolments, over 150,000 professionals trained, PHRi and SHRM-CP certified, HRCI representative in more than 10 countries. I built the people function of the unicorn Preply and worked at Wargaming, Alfa-Bank and iDeals, designing the conditions people worked under and seeing which ones held.

This is a professional development course about work, not medical or psychological advice. For any health concern, please speak to a doctor.

What is included

  • Lifetime access to all course materials

  • Active instructor support in the Q&A section

  • Udemy Certificate of Completion

  • Practical assignments and real business cases

  • A section with additional courses, tools and resources

A question to start with

Write down the three things about your working week that drain you most, then mark each one as a habit or a condition. Most people expect habits and find conditions, and conditions are the ones that can actually be changed by a decision rather than by willpower. Enrol now and start the first lesson today.

Who this course is for:

  • Professionals whose work has quietly expanded to fill everything else
  • Remote and hybrid workers whose day has no beginning and no end
  • Managers responsible for a team’s workload and working conditions
  • HR and wellbeing specialists building programmes and having to justify them
  • Office managers and operations people who own the working environment
  • Founders setting the working norms their company will keep for years
  • Anyone who has read a lot about work-life balance and changed nothing structurally
