Requirements

  • No prior GIAC or SANS coursework is required, though familiarity with basic IT/networking concepts helps
  • Course #1 in this series is not required first, but completing it first avoids any topic overlap
  • Access to your own GSEC study materials is useful, since these exams are designed for open-book practice
  • No software or lab environment is required, all CyberLive-style questions are presented in text form
  • A quiet block of time (ideally 4 hours) if you want to simulate the real proctored exam experience
  • An interest in pursuing the GSEC certification or validating existing security operations knowledge
  • No programming experience is required, though basic comfort reading command-line output is helpful
  • A computer or device to work through the practice questions; no special hardware is needed

Description

This course contains 5 more full-length GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) practice exams, 530 additional questions, the second half of a 10-exam, 1,060-question set. It’s designed to be taken after Course #1 in this series, though it also works as a standalone practice set.

Each practice exam contains 106 questions, matching the real GSEC exam’s question count, and is organized across seven topic clusters that approximate GIAC’s 26 official GSEC objectives: Defense in Depth & Access Control; Networking, Architecture & Wireless; Web, Virtualization, Cloud & Endpoint Security; Incident Handling, Vulnerability Management, Malware, Logging & Frameworks; Cryptography; Linux; and Windows.

As with Course #1, you’ll find a realistic mix of direct technical knowledge questions, applied scenario-based questions, concept and terminology identification, compare-and-select questions, and troubleshooting/root-cause questions, plus at least 12 CyberLive-style questions per exam, text-based command output, log excerpts, firewall rules, and configuration snippets to interpret, approximating (though not replacing) the real hands-on CyberLive lab component of the actual exam.

Every question includes the correct answer and a clear explanation of why it’s right and why the leading distractor is wrong, with the general GSEC topic area named so you can keep building your own open-book tabbed index, a key part of real exam-day strategy since GSEC permits printed books and notes.

No sub-topic covered in Course #1 is repeated here: exams 6 through 10 push into additional scenarios and edge cases across the same 26 objectives, so between both courses you get 1,060 genuinely distinct practice questions. This course is not affiliated with or endorsed by GIAC or the SANS Institute; it is independent practice material designed to complement your official study resources, not replace them.

Who this course is for:

  • Candidates who have already worked through Course #1 and want additional, non-repeating practice
  • Candidates who have registered for, or are planning to register for, the GIAC GSEC certification exam
  • New information security professionals with a networking or general IT background
  • Security administrators, security managers, and security operations personnel
  • IT engineers, IT supervisors, forensic analysts, penetration testers, and auditors preparing for GSEC
  • SANS course alumni looking for a second, distinct round of realistic exam-length practice
  • DoD and government personnel pursuing GSEC for 8570/8140 IAT Level II compliance
  • Anyone who wants a large, non-repetitive bank of GSEC practice questions before exam day
