Course content

Requirements

  • No prior experience with VXLAN, EVPN, ACI, UCS, SAN, or data center automation is required.
  • The course is primarily focused on concepts, architecture, and technology fundamentals, so prior hands-on experience with Cisco Data Center equipment is not necessary.

Description

This course contains the use of Artificial Intelligence.

” Unofficial Course “

Take a comprehensive journey into modern Cisco Data Center technologies and learn how enterprise data center infrastructures are designed, interconnected, managed, and automated. This course provides a structured exploration of data center networking, advanced switching and overlay technologies, storage networking, unified computing, application-centric infrastructure, and network programmability.

You will begin by developing a strong understanding of modern data center architecture, including the evolution from traditional three-tier designs to spine-leaf topologies. The course explores Virtual Port Channel (vPC) architecture, control-plane concepts, First Hop Redundancy Protocols (FHRP), and Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS) routing fundamentals, giving you the foundation required to understand resilient and scalable data center networks.

The course then moves into advanced data center switching and overlay technologies. You will explore Overlay Transport Virtualization (OTV), Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) data-plane encapsulation, and Multiprotocol BGP EVPN control-plane concepts. You will also examine multicast technologies such as Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP), and understand their role in supporting modern data center communication and overlay architectures.

A dedicated portion of the course focuses on Storage Area Networking (SAN). You will learn about the Fibre Channel protocol stack, Fibre Channel port types, Virtual Storage Area Networks (VSANs), zoning principles, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), and Fibre Channel Initialization Protocol (FIP). You will also explore SAN design models, redundancy concepts, and the architectural considerations involved in building resilient storage infrastructures.

The course also introduces Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) architecture and its role in integrating computing, networking, and management within the data center. You will examine UCS hardware components, Fabric Interconnects, UCS Manager, service profiles, templates, organizations, role-based access control, and Cisco Intersight cloud-management concepts. These topics help you understand how compute infrastructure can be centrally managed and integrated into broader data center operations.

You will then explore Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), including its physical architecture and Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC). The course covers ACI’s logical policy model, tenants, VRFs, bridge domains, endpoint groups (EPGs), and micro-segmentation concepts.

You will also study ACI Anywhere architectures, including Multi-Pod and Multi-Site deployments, and understand how policy-driven networking can be applied across distributed data center environments.

Finally, the course introduces data center automation and programmability. You will learn how REST APIs and JSON data structures support programmatic infrastructure management, followed by model-driven programmability using YANG, NETCONF, and RESTCONF.

The course also covers Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, event-driven automation, and Cisco NX-OS streaming telemetry, helping you understand how modern data center environments can become more programmable, observable, and operationally efficient.

Throughout the course, the focus is on architectural concepts, protocols, technologies, and practical relationships between different components of a modern Cisco data center. Rather than concentrating on a single product or technology, the course provides a broad technical perspective that connects networking, storage, compute, policy, virtualization, and automation into a unified data center framework.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a solid conceptual foundation in Cisco Data Center technologies and be better prepared to understand and work with enterprise data center architectures involving Nexus switching, vPC, VXLAN, EVPN, multicast, SAN, UCS, ACI, Intersight, and network programmability.

Whether you are expanding your networking knowledge, preparing for advanced data center responsibilities, or seeking a structured understanding of Cisco’s data center ecosystem, this course provides a comprehensive technical learning experience.

Thank you
