Requirements

  • Basic experience with Windows Server or Linux (or a lab you are building)
  • No lab is needed to take the tests

Description

Do you look after both Windows Server and Linux machines – or are you about to? These practice tests check the knowledge an administrator of a mixed environment uses every day: the Linux command line and Vim, running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 servers, Active Directory Domain Services, and Group Policy, security, Hyper-V and storage on Windows Server.

You get 4 practice tests with 197 questions in total (50, 50, 47, 50). Every question was checked twice before release: once by the author against the official documentation, and once by an independent reviewer who answered it blind – any disagreement was settled with a source.

What makes the explanations useful

Each answer tells you why the right option is right and why each wrong option is wrong. The wrong options are real features, commands and settings that are easy to pick by mistake – that is where most of the learning is.

How the tests are built

  • Practice Test 1: Linux Command Line, Files and Vim: the file system and file commands, wildcards, man pages, find, tar and compression, Vim, redirection and pipes, grep and sed, Bash history and aliases.
  • Practice Test 2: Linux System Administration on RHEL 9: users, groups and sudo, permissions and umask, processes and signals, systemd, SSH, journald and rsyslog, cron, DNF and RPM, nmcli, LVM, Bash scripts and Ansible.
  • Practice Test 3: Active Directory, Group Policy, Hyper-V and Storage: forests, domains and trusts, functional levels, domain controllers, FSMO roles, global catalog, sites and replication, users, groups, computers, OUs and delegation.
  • Practice Test 4: Linux and Windows Mixed Review: Group Policy processing, password policies and PSOs, Protected Users, gMSAs, Kerberos, auditing, AD CS, Recycle Bin, Hyper-V, Storage Spaces and failover clustering.

Questions use single-answer and multiple-answer formats; the number of answers to pick is always stated. Suggested time: 75 minutes per test.

Versions: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (systemd, NetworkManager/nmcli, DNF/YUM and RPM, LVM, XFS, journald/rsyslog, Ansible basics) and Windows Server 2022 / Windows Server 2025 (Active Directory Domain Services, Group Policy, AD CS, Hyper-V, Storage Spaces, Failover Clustering, Windows Admin Center), PowerShell 5.1 / PowerShell 7, as of October 2026.

Please note: these are original practice questions written by an instructor. This course is not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft or Red Hat; Windows Server, Active Directory and Hyper-V are Microsoft trademarks, and Red Hat and Red Hat Enterprise Linux are Red Hat trademarks.
