Description

Synonyms and antonyms are the highest-frequency vocabulary questions on any Indian competitive-exam English paper — and the easiest place to lose marks to a trap.

The exam rarely asks a word once. It asks the synonym, then the antonym — often with a tempting synonym planted among the options — then buries the word in a sentence blank, then asks what it means. Each direction punishes a different weakness. This course trains all four: 6 full-length practice tests, 100 questions each, 600 questions in total, built on high-value words — almost every one tested in 3-4 different directions.

How Each 100-Question Test Is Built:

  • Synonym Selection (25 questions): Choose the option closest in meaning to the given word.

  • Antonym Selection (25 questions): The opposite direction, and the trap ground — every single antonym question carries one deliberately planted synonym among the distractors, so you learn to spot the option that feels related but is not an opposite.

  • Word in the Blank (25 questions): The word is buried in a sentence with a blank; you pick it by context and usage, not definition.

  • Word Meaning (25 questions): Given the word, choose its most appropriate meaning, with near-miss definitions to reject.

198 Words, Learned in Depth — Not 600 Met Once:
Most question banks scatter 600 words across 600 questions; you meet each once and forget it. This course deliberately does the opposite: almost every word is tested in 3-4 different directions across the course — synonym, antonym, blank and meaning — because that repetition across formats is how vocabulary actually moves into long-term memory. And no word ever appears as an answer in another course of this series, so your practice stays fresh if you take them all.

A Difficulty Curve, Not Six Identical Tests:

  • Tests 1-2 run on the PYQ-verified core — words drawn from actual SSC CGL/CHSL/CPO shifts (adamant, frugal, serene, veracity, ephemeral, candid) — while your accuracy settles.

  • Tests 3-4 begin the ramp into standard exam mid vocabulary (beguile, cajole, ignominy, judicious, loquacious).

  • Tests 5-6 retire the easy material entirely: advanced and literary vocabulary (abjure, licentious, meretricious, pernicious, pre-eminent, prepossessing, tantamount, xanthic), ending in a challenge final.

You can measure real progress by which tests you pass (80% to pass) and where your score first dips.

Every Option Explained — Not Just the Right One:
This is the difference between practising and improving: a wrong answer teaches you nothing unless you know why it was wrong. All 600 questions ship with a written explanation for the correct answer and for each of the three distractors — what the distractor actually means, so you learn four words per question, not one. And the traps are built honestly: no distractor doubles as a valid answer, so elimination genuinely works. Every synonym and antonym answer was verified against its source list, and the full question bank was independently audited before publication.

British Spelling Throughout, Exams in Mind:
Competitive-exam English accepts both conventions; this course consistently teaches one (UK) so you never confuse yourself mid-test.

What’s Included:

  • 6 timed, full-length practice tests (100 questions each, 100 minutes recommended, randomised question order).

  • 600 written explanations for correct answers — plus 1,800 distractor explanations (2,400 in total).

  • A synonym trap in every antonym question — trained exactly where the exam sets its traps.

  • Pass mark: 80% per test; unlimited retakes.

  • Lifetime access, including future question refreshes.

Take Test 1 to set your baseline, and Test 6 the week before the real thing. If you can pass the final test, no synonym or antonym question can surprise you.

Note: This course is an independent practice resource and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by any examining body.

Who this course is for:

  • Learners who want explanations, not just scores — all four options are justified in writing on every question
  • ESL/EFL learners at B1–B2 who want a structured path from everyday exam vocabulary to advanced literary words
