Description

Neo soul is the perfect style to study if you’re interested in taking your knowledge of guitar theory to the next level!

From the beginning stages of Level 1 we’ll apply our understanding of triads and basic major, minor and diminished shapes to create chord melody arrangements. This is possible by placing the singing voice on top of our chords.

Once you have a firm grasp on the basics, Level 2 and 3 will introduce you to the things you probably want to gain more familiarity with using like embellishments, alterations, 7th chords and 9th, 11th and 13th extensions.

This opens a new dimension for many different fingerings and voicings. My goal is to show you a few methods for this through Songs “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Happy Birthday.”

We’ll understand how harmonic complexity is used through Secondary Dominants, Tritone Substitutions and Passing Chords

Neo Soul is a style of guitar that has exploded onto the Instagram and TikTok Scene. It’s essentially a style of music that emerged from Soul and Contemporary R&B with incorporated elements from Jazz Fusion.

The blending of these genres has arguably been going on since the time of Jazz players like George Benson and Curtis Mayfield.

In this course we’ll unpack the basic musical concepts and techniques of Modern players implementing this “Smooth Jazz” style like Mateus Asato, Melanie Faye and Arianna Powell.

Who this course is for:

  • Guitar players curious about learning Intermediate to lower Advanced Reharmonization
