Mailbox databases are where many Exchange problems start: full disks, oversized mailboxes, logs on the wrong volume. This short course shows the PowerShell commands that manage them, so you can look after your databases from the command line and answer questions about their size quickly.
How the course works
Each lecture takes one database task and shows it on a working Exchange server: the problem, the command and the result. The first lecture explains the PowerShell ideas used later, and a short introduction to WMI and CIM closes the course. You can repeat every step on a test server before using it in production.
Inside the course
The course is organised into these sections: Mailbox Database Management. Lectures you will find include: PowerShell Key Concepts; Managing the mailbox databases; Moving databases and logs to another location; Configuring the mailbox database limits; Reporting on mailbox database size; Finding the total number of mailboxes in a database; Determining the average mailbox size per database; Intro to WMI and CIM.
The course runs about 1.1 hours in 9 lectures. It is a focused course on mailbox databases only, so it does not cover installation, mail flow or mailbox tasks. It is a good fit if you want quick, repeatable commands for reporting and maintenance.
