Course content

Requirements

  • Basic familiarity with penetration testing or offensive security concepts is helpful, though not required.
  • A working knowledge of Windows, Active Directory, and core networking concepts.
  • No scripting or coding experience is required. Every question is explained in plain language.
  • Familiarity with common Red Team tools such as Cobalt Strike, Empire, and BloodHound is useful but optional.
  • A computer, tablet, or phone with an internet connection to access the practice tests.
  • A copy of the SANS SEC565 course materials or independent GRTP study notes, recommended alongside this practice set.
  • Willingness to review each explanation and revisit the related objective before retaking a test.
  • No prior GIAC certification is required. This set works as first-attempt prep or a renewal refresher.

Description

Build real GRTP exam readiness, one full-length practice test at a time.

The GIAC Red Team Professional (GRTP) exam tests whether you can run an authorized Red Team engagement from end to end: building an adversary emulation plan, standing up C2 infrastructure, moving through an Active Directory environment, and reporting the results. This practice test set is built around that same lifecycle, using the same style of scenario-based and CyberLive style questions GIAC itself uses.

What’s included in Volume 1

  • 5 full-length practice exams, 82 questions each, matching the real GRTP format and 3-hour time limit

  • Over 400 unique questions across all 10 official GRTP objectives, with no repeats within this set

  • A detailed rationale after every question, explaining why the correct answer is right and why the closest distractor is wrong

  • CyberLive style items that walk through C2 profiles, redirector configurations, and Active Directory enumeration output, the same kind of hands-on interpretation used in the live exam

  • Coverage of the full engagement lifecycle: adversary emulation fundamentals, attack infrastructure, gaining access, command and control, discovery and enumeration, privilege escalation, Active Directory attacks, leveraging the domain, persistence and exfiltration, and engagement reporting

Who this is for

This set is built for penetration testers, Red Team operators, and security professionals preparing for the GRTP exam, whether you are working through SANS SEC565 or studying independently. Blue Team members and defenders who want to understand Red Team tradecraft, and security managers who scope or oversee Red Team engagements, will also get real value from the scenario-based format.

Why practice tests instead of video lectures

GRTP is a hands-on, tool-heavy certification. Reading about a Kerberoasting attack is not the same as recognizing one in a log entry under time pressure. Every question in this course is written to put you in that position: a short scenario, a real-world constraint, and a decision to make, exactly like the exam itself.

GIAC’s published passing score for GRTP exam versions released on or after January 20, 2024 is 76%, though this figure is set through periodic psychometric review, so confirm the exact requirement for your own attempt in your GIAC account before test day. Use these five practice exams to find your weak objectives now, while there is still time to close the gap.

Take the first test cold, review every explanation, and come back for the next one once you have revisited the objectives that gave you trouble.

Who this course is for:

  • Penetration testers and Red Team operators preparing to sit the GIAC GRTP exam.
  • Security professionals enrolled in, or who have completed, SANS SEC565.
  • Blue Team members, defenders, and forensic analysts who want to understand Red Team methodology.
  • Information security managers who scope, oversee, or participate in Red Team engagements.
  • Candidates who want realistic, scenario-based practice rather than flashcard-style recall.
  • Self-directed learners who prefer full-length timed practice exams over video lectures.
  • GRTP holders approaching renewal who want a fast, structured knowledge refresh.
  • Anyone who wants to benchmark their readiness against GIAC’s passing standard before booking the real exam.
