What will we cover together?

Inpatient Documentation & Compliance: We look at the rules. You need to know things like the “72-Hour Rule,” HIPAA, and what counts as a “Hospital Acquired Condition.” These are free points on the exam if you know the regulations.

ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Coding: This is not just basic coding. We look at specific inpatient guidelines. We cover the tricky stuff like “Principal Diagnosis” selection, coding for Sepsis, HIV, and uncertain diagnoses.

ICD-10-PCS Procedure Coding: This is the big one. I break down the 7-character system. You will practice identifying the correct “Root Operation.” You will learn the difference between Excision and Resection, or Release and Division. If you can get the Root Operation right, you can get the code right.

Clinical Coding Scenarios: This is where we put it all together. These are short medical stories (mini-cases). You have to read the chart and pick the right codes for both the diagnosis and the procedure. This is exactly what you will do as a real inpatient coder.
