What you'll learn

  • Work out what you actually want next, using a talents inventory and a values questionnaire instead of scrolling job boards
  • Audit your skills against the target role and build a development plan for the gaps you find
  • Write a CV that survives the seven seconds a recruiter gives it, and a LinkedIn profile that gets you found
  • Understand how recruiters really work — where vacancies come from, how salaries get set, how decisions are made behind the door
  • Handle impostor syndrome, which hits around 70% of people and hits hardest exactly when you are about to move
  • Price yourself properly and run the pay conversation, including the boss’s four standard objections
  • Get through the interview: telephone screen, competency questions, and the part where you sell yourself to your future manager
  • Land well and become the person the new company keeps, not the one it tolerates through probation
  • Learn alongside Mike’s 1.6 million students from 185 countries
  • Get the author’s experience from Preply, Wargaming, iDeals and Alfa-Bank

Course content

Requirements

  • No experience with career coaching needed. I explain every tool as we use it
  • You do need to be genuinely considering a move — this course is worked on your own situation, not a case study
  • Be ready to write things down. The talents inventory and the balance wheel only work on paper
  • English at intermediate level or above, since all lessons and materials are in English
  • A LinkedIn account, even a neglected one. We will rebuild it

Description

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Most people do not change careers because they are unhappy. They change because they finally admit they have no idea what they want, and staying got harder than finding out.

The part nobody warns you about

You update the CV, apply to forty roles, hear back from three. Meanwhile a voice in your head keeps suggesting you are not really qualified for any of them — and roughly 70% of people hear that same voice, usually the ones who know the most. Money runs down. The search takes longer than you budgeted for. Somewhere in month three you start considering roles you did not want in month one.

I have sat on the recruiter’s side of that process for years, and I have been the candidate too. The gap between how people search and how hiring actually works is enormous, and it costs good people the jobs they should have had.

What we do about it

First, we work out what you are aiming at. Not with inspiration — with a talents inventory, a values questionnaire and the career cube, so the answer holds up on a bad day. Then we audit your skills against the target role and turn the gaps into a plan.

After that the mechanics. How recruiters actually source, screen and decide. A CV built for the seven seconds it will get. A LinkedIn profile that surfaces in the searches that matter. Interview preparation including the questions that decide it. The pay conversation with the four objections your boss will use. And the impostor voice handled directly, because it does more damage during a transition than anything on your CV.

Who is teaching this

Mike, the number one HR instructor on Udemy. More than 1.6 million course enrolments, over 150,000 professionals trained, PHRi and SHRM-CP certified, HRCI representative in more than 10 countries. I built the people function of the unicorn Preply and worked at Wargaming, Alfa-Bank and iDeals. I have read a very large number of CVs, and I will tell you honestly what happens to most of them.

Where the course ends

Not at the offer. Getting hired is the middle of the story, and the first ninety days decide whether the move was worth making. So the final part is about landing well: what the strongest employees do differently, how to work with a new manager, how to make your contribution visible early, and how to keep your motivation when nobody is watching yet.

What is included

– Lifetime access to all course materials

– Active instructor support in the Q&A section

– Udemy Certificate of Completion

– Practical assignments and real business cases

– A section with additional courses, tools and resources

One honest note

A career change takes longer than you think and costs more than you planned. That is normal. What is not normal is doing it blind, on advice from people who have never seen the hiring side. Enrol now and start the first lesson today.

Who this course is for:

  • People who have outgrown their job but cannot name what should come next
  • Specialists moving into a new function or industry and unsure what transfers
  • Anyone whose CV goes into applications and never comes back
  • Managers who deserve a raise and keep postponing the conversation
  • Professionals returning after a break, a layoff or a period of burnout
  • Career coaches who want a full working toolkit rather than a set of questions
  • Anyone who has read that they are an impostor and quietly agreed
