Pass the Google Cloud Professional Cloud Database Engineer exam on your first attempt.

This exam has changed character. It was once treated as a Cloud SQL exam with some extras attached, and plenty of study material still reflects that. It now tests the full portfolio properly — relational, globally distributed, wide-column and PostgreSQL-compatible services together — alongside migration troubleshooting, zero-trust security patterns, vector search, and operations run against service level objectives rather than raw resource metrics. If your preparation assumes the older shape of this exam, you will be surprised by it.

It is also a judgement exam, not a recall exam. The scenarios hand you a workload with constraints attached — latency targets, consistency requirements, growth patterns, budget, compliance — and several designs that would all technically function. The correct one is correct because of a specific constraint in the stem. Candidates who study by memorising service feature lists consistently underperform candidates who have made these decisions in production and regretted a few of them.

How to use this course

Sit the first test cold to establish a baseline. Expect the gap to appear wherever your production experience does not reach — most database engineers are deep in one or two services and shallow in the rest, and this exam does not let you stay there. Read every explanation, including on correct answers, because the same four services reappear across scenarios with different correct choices, and the reasoning is the transferable part. Where a service is unfamiliar, build with it: create an instance, load data, force a failover, watch what the metrics do. Judgement comes from having seen things break.

Worth knowing: Google recommends substantial overall database and IT experience plus a couple of years working specifically with its database services. This is a senior, production-focused certification, and it shows in the questions. The credential is valid for a fixed period and renewed by retaking the exam.
