Why competitor analysis rarely changes a decision
Most competitor analysis is a slide with logos and a list of features. It repeats what competitors say about themselves and confirms what the team already believed. The useful information was never published for you: who they hire, what they test, where they spend, how their customers describe them. And even good findings often stay in a report, because nobody turned them into a decision.
What changes after this course
You collect information from open sources with search techniques most people do not know. You diagnose the market and the competitors in the first 30 days. You frame the business question before answering it and check your own conclusions for bias. You position your brand against what you found. And you bring it all to a strategy session that ends with owners, metrics and milestones.

Who is teaching
I am Mike, the #1 HR instructor on Udemy, with 1,800,000+ course enrollments from 170,000 students, and the author of about 200 books on Amazon. I built the people system at Preply as it became a unicorn and worked at Wargaming, iDeals and Alfa-Bank across 20 years in HR. I hold PHRi, SHRM-CP and HCI sHRBP certifications and represent HRCI in Eastern Europe. I am also a founder and lead the strategy of my own academy.
At Wargaming I counted our real competitors with open data. A competitor audit answers two simple questions: where your people go and where they come from. I set the LinkedIn filters by current and past employer and in a few minutes saw the companies that people actually moved between. They were not always the ones we called competitors. And at Alfa-Bank I saw the old approach to strategy: consultants wrote a very long document, it was classified, and it was kept in the safe of the bank’s president. A strategy that cannot be opened and updated every quarter does not guide anyone.
